I have no idea why Henry heated up the coin over a fire. Does anybody out there know?

This HENRY cartoon was drawn by his creator Carl Anderson between 1932 and 1934 for the SATURDAY EVENING POST. Look for a new HENRY cartoon every Monday.

Henry is offering the monkey a toasted marshmallow and the monkey is using tongs to take it because it is hot!

could it be heated to see if it was a true coin, otherwise it would have melted? When was the big stock crash, 33? or earlier??
